Macintosh Printing in the IR/PS Computer Lab

It is now possible to use the IR/PS lab laser printers from a Macintosh laptop.  Simply follow the directions below.

Adding the IRPS Printers to your computer:

Go to printer set-up utility

Click the ‘Add’ button.

In the top window, choose:

IP Printing

For Printer Address, type in:

ucsd-irps1.ucsd.edu

For Queue Name, type in:

IRPS-Lab_Laptop_Queue

For Printer Model, select:

HP

and then:

HP LaserJet 4300.

(If you don’t see the model 4300, see Stu about getting the HP drivers installed.)
Click Add

Printing the document:

Open the document you wish to print, and print it to the IRPS-Lab_Laptop_Queue print queue that you just created.

Authorizing the print job:

From the same computer you used to print, open a web browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla. (We’ve found that Apple’s Safari browser or Netscape Navigator don’t work too well for this task.)

Go to http://irsphelp.ucsd.edu.  On the bottom left, click on the link titled ‘Authorize paused print jobs.’ You must use Internet Explorer for this step.

Your browser will require you to enter your network username and password after clicking this link.

Note: If you only have two boxes, you may need to enter your username as “ad\jstudent”.

You will get a pop-up window showing Mac print jobs that are paused and awaiting authorization along with the estimated cost of the print job.  Select your print job, and click print.

Your print job will now be sent to the selected printer and your account charged for the actual number of pages that print out.
