IR/PS has purchased licenses for Sophos Anti-Virus to cover all faculty and staff. The general campus Sophos license covers all UCSD students. To make sure everyone's Sophos Anti-Virus installation is up to date, IR/PS is offering a secure update service to current faculty, staff, and students for their home and personal computers running the MacOS X 10.2 and above. Follow these directions to install Sophos Anti-Virus and keep it up to date.
These directions will show you how to download, install, and configure Sophos Anti-Virus to scan and remove viruses from your Macintosh computer.
Begin the installation by clicking here to download the Sophos installer file, called Sophos.dmg.

In the next couple of screens, keep default options by simply clicking Continue on each one. It will take just a few minutes to complete the installation. |
Configure Sophos AutoUpdate | |
| Once the installation is complete, you will get a Sophos icon in your menu bar area. Click on this icon and select Open Preferences.... | ![]() |

Click on the tab for AutoUpdate and the dropdown menu for Network Settings. Then enter the
following under Primary Server, Check Enable Sophos AutoUpdate Choose Company web server. For URL, enter "http://irpshelp.ucsd.edu/sophos/ESOSX" You must also enter your UCSD Active Directory username and password using the format "ad\username". Note: If you cannot make changes in these panels, click on the padlock icon and enter the name and password of a user with administrative privileges on your computer. |

Change the dropdown menu to Scheduling and set the interval you want to use to update your installation. We recommend setting the AutoUpdate schedule to Every 1 Days or more frequently. Once this is complete you need to click Set. |

| Go back to the Sophos icon in your menu bar area. Click on this icon and select Open Preferences one more time. | ![]() |

Click on the Scanning tab and choose Disinfection from the dropdown menu. Check the box for Enable disinfection and the box for Action on infected files. Your Sophos Anti-Virus for MacOS X is set up. |
